Students Present Projects in Digital Scholarship Lab 360 Room

December 8, 2021

Social Work seniors presented websites they created in Dr. Pilar Horner's SW 420: Social Work and Social Policy II. In this course, students work all semester to develop a deeper understanding of social problems, policy formation, and policy implementation. They choose a social problem and policy and analyze the policy as a digital scholarship project which culminates in the 360 room presentation. It is an effort to include new digital tools and improve students' digital literacy within the context of policy and social work.

Presentations this semester included:

  • Lack of Mental Health Care Access in Latino Communities
  • Racial Bias of Student Success as Determined by Standardized Test Scores
  • The Impact of Unaccompanied Minors at the Border
  • The Increase of Legal Restrictions on Reproductive Health Care
  • The Insufficiency of Heroin Treatment Programs in the US
  • Wage Stagnation and the Earned Income Tax Credit
  • Disparities in Youth Incarceration
