Scholarships available to Social Work students

(There are a limited number of awards. Applicants may apply for up to two scholarships but, if awarded, receive only one.)

Applications for 2020-2021 scholarships will only be accepted between March 1, 2020 and April 15, 2020 for all scholarships except for the Advocacy Scholars, which is due on January 10, 2020. The scholarships are awarded in the fall of each year.

The following scholarships are made possible through special endowments to the School of Social Work, open to undergraduate, master and doctoral students.

  • Gordon & Gladys Aldridge Memorial Fellowship
    MSW students identifying clear professional goals, academic achievement, and have identified financial need.
  • Dr. Mary Bremer Barron Scholarship
    Nontraditional MSW students from the Flint Program, preferably with some social work employment experience.
  • Future Leaders Endowed Scholarship in SW
    MSW students who demonstrate “high promise” for future contributions and have identified financial need.
  • Richard D. Gardner Memorial Scholarship
    Students who are beginning an MSW program after being out of school for several years; have faced academic or personal challenges during their undergraduate years; and show clear promise. Preference for students with interest in substance abuse treatment.
  • Henry-Lane Scholarship
    Open to PhD candidates.
  • Robert Little Scholarship
    Graduate students working in or intending to work in child welfare, particularly with an interest in kinship care.
  • Janet Sisson Tift Scholarship
    Advanced Standing student demonstrating professional goals and academic achievement.
  • Marcella Gast Schalon Scholarship
    Open to undergraduate students enrolled in the School of Social Work with a preference for students in good academic standing and from Berrien County.
  • Cheryl and William Sickle Scholarship
    Full-time BASW or MSW student with demonstrated need. Priority given to students who self-identify as single parents.

The following scholarships are made possible through special endowments and grants to the School of Social Work for master students in specialized placements.

  • Advocacy Scholars Program
    Open to MSW students accepted to the Advocacy Scholars Program. (Note deadline to apply is January 10, 2020.)
  • Chance at Childhood Scholarship
    Open to MSW students with placements at Chance at Childhood.
  • Levande Scholarship
    Open to MSW students with placements working with older adults.
  • HEALS Scholarship
    Open to those in the HEALS Certificate Program; applications go directly to Dr. Marcia Lampen.
