Emergency Services for Children

Statewide Organizations | County Organizations | Advocacy Groups

If you or someone you know is in danger of harming themselves or others, dial 911 or contact your local authorities. If you have a mental health emergency with your child, you should seek help right away. Go to the nearest hospital emergency room for assistance. If there is no hospital nearby, or if you don’t know where it is, please call 911 for assistance.

Some counties have after-hour emergency services for work with children. Some of those access numbers are listed here (alphabetically) as well as other types of supportive services, e.g. hot lines, suicide prevention, and psychiatric services. To find emergency services in your area of the State, look for your county community mental health agency online and search for the 24-hour hotline number.

It’s a good idea to keep area hospital and ambulance phone numbers posted visibly in your home. Teach children to identify themselves and be able to state their date of birth, address and legal guardian.
