Master of Social Work (MSW) International Admissions

THE MICHIGAN STATE UNIVERSITY GRADUATE SCHOOL APPLICATION

To guide your application process, please visit the MSU Graduate School website. The GRE is not a requirement for admissions to our MSW program.

Dr. Schneller frames your application process into 5 important steps:

  • Step 1 Review Department and University web sites
  • Step 2 The MSU on-line application
  • Step 3 Gather required documents
  • Step 4 Personal statement
  • Step 5 Letters of reference

All students applying to graduate school at Michigan State University complete an application to both the University and an application to the department of their choice. Please consider the steps outlined by Dr. Schneller as you review both the Graduate School and School of Social Work web sites and application information.

Please consider these additional suggestions:

  1. Official Transcripts

You are advised to request official hard copies of your transcripts – as soon as possible – from all of your previous University coursework. Your application cannot be reviewed for admission unless all of your transcripts are official and received. Official means, signed, sealed and delivered by your academic university to the address below:

Graduate Programs – School of Social Work
655 Auditorium Road, Office 239 Baker Hall
    East Lansing, MI 48824

A note: If you are pursuing or have earned degrees from universities in China, the Office of Admissions requires you submit not only transcripts and graduation certificates from China, but also obtain verification of these documents from the China Academic Degrees and Graduate Education Development Center (CDGDC). All documents should be sent to:

Graduate Programs – School of Social Work

    East Lansing, MI 48824

  2. English proficiency examinations

TOEFL Exam from Testing Center – You must register and complete a (TOEFL) Test of English as Foreign Language, and provide the testing center with our University Code 1465. The Testing center must send Michigan State University Graduate department the official Scores via ETS. (You cannot submit your copy; that’s considered unofficial). More information can be found on the Graduate Office website.

  3. Deadlines

The School of Social Work application, must be submitted electronically to our department by our deadline of January 10th. This application is found on our department website, where you complete both University and Social Work admissions criteria. Read carefully and complete Steps 1-8. MSW Application Process

Please note: Government or agency sponsored international students may have additional or other applications to complete with their own deadlines.

For example, the MasterCard Foundation Scholarship application, must be submitted to MasterCard by their Deadline of February 2nd, in the MasterCard website. The MCFS scholarship covers tuition and living expenses for two years. See http://mcfscholars.isp.msu.edu/ for more information.
